Wii U

At E3 2011, Nintendo showed us the Wii U.
At first I was speechless, I thought to my self what the hell is this travesty,
later I stopped my self and looked at it with an open mind.
My reaction was now a mixed between, Ooo Ahh Boo.
I will explain

The Ooo
Idea is great, having basically a Nintendo tablet with buttons as the controller.
Updated graphics, at last.
Switching back and forth from T.V to handheld.
Using the screen on the device to throw things to the T.V (ninja stars)
Being able to use it as a Graphic Tablet is pretty dam sweet.
Some videos showed the controller being used in conjunction with other Wii peripherals

The Ahh
Its being done by Sony. With the Vita.
Graphics that might be as good if not less then Ps3/360.
Game development snags.
Actual game play with such a big controller seems uncomfortable and not ergonomic.

The Boo
The cost of this has to be greater than the PS3 and the Xbox 360.(At launch)
Pay more for Graphics that are sub par compared to  PS3 and Xbox 360.
Placing the controller on the floor to play games.."oops honey I didn't see it on the floor"
Controller price?
Next gen? Still this gen.

 The Comparison:
Comparing it to the PS3 with the PSVita, the Wii U falls short.
With the Vita I can swap between it and the PS3 and go out with a full PS3 game at the tip of my fingers.
With the Wii U I can swap games from the console to the controller but , and this is the big problem.
If you are able to take the controller on a car ride or a friends house, then its like pushing 3DS aside
and using it as a tablet.

The Pothole :
There are two potholes for Nintendo's Wii U success.
Nintendo is just now releasing a console that can be considered Next gen graphics..back in 2005
and it cost more than the other Consoles.
Game Development. The first year of the Wii U only games most likely will be sub par.
If the past 6 years Wii Developers have been using a wimp system and
now is starting to use the Wii U, its lools like it is is PS3 all over again.
The Developers might not be able to take advantage of Wii U at the get go.
This will lag Nintendo's success.

Second Thought:
Controller Hack for android gaming tablet ?

Final Verdict :
The Wii U has promise but I think its a little to late in the market.
The bottom line is that this is not the "new" next gen, it is old gen.
I see it more as a gimmick then actual gaming.
Nintendo fan boys will pick this up,
and so will a lot of the Wii only owners.
As for the gamers, and my self, this is a pass.
Spend your money on a PS3/Xbox with at least 2 games or a PSVita.
